The population of the Kenton County Detention Center in Covington was reduced over the past two weeks from 715 to 483.
Most of the released inmates are now clients of the Covington-based Life Learning Center, an organization that aims to help people get their lives back on track.
A partnership between the jail, the center and the Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office was announced on Friday.
The immediate goal of reducing the inmate population is to slow the spread of COVID-19.
