Cincinnati Police are now accepting tips through the department's just-launched mobile app.
Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac says is similar to using but doesn't seek to replace it.
"One of the best things about this is that users can submit tips directly to detectives and investigators and they're completely anonymous," Isaac says. "They can also include text messages, photos and videos to alert those officers in the field."
Users can track tips they submit and communicate back and forth with police if there are questions, or if they have more information.
The system uses the encrypted structure, so reports are anonymous and secure.
"We have a new generation of adults and they use social media more than ever before," Isaac says. "Absolutely, I think we're getting more information that way, and I think as we continue to work on building great relationships, that's the opportunity to get more information coming in as well."
Isaac says the app isn't meant to function like the , so don't send in your . He says this is also a good time to sign up for as well.
