Demolition begins Thursday on what will soon be the largest vacant site in Hamilton County. Gibson Greeting Card closed in 2000 and the looks to redevelop it into an advanced manufacturing site.
Because of its size, 593,000 square feet, the demolition will take about three months according to the Port's Melissa Johnson, Vice President of Industrial Development. She says, "Other key components of the project include limited environmental remediation which is ongoing and should be finished by February and storm water infrastructure and flood plain correction."
Port CEO Laura Brunner says companies are looking for large sites like this one (56 acres) and sites that already have utilities.
In June, 2016, the Port Authority purchased the building at 2100 Section Road as part of its Industrial Revitalization Strategy. There is already interest in the site.
Gibson was the nation's third-largest greeting card manufacturing and sales operation and employed about 1,000 people.
